A Father’s Day Song for Stephen
Share
This Father’s Day, one of our clients wanted to create something truly unforgettable for her dad, Stephen. Instead of buying another last-minute gift, she came to us to turn their family’s stories into a song he could treasure forever.
Stephen - or “Stef, Steve, and ‘Stephen’ when he’s in trouble” - is a dad full of character. He’s the kind of father who taught his girls how to change a tyre in the garage, raised them on country music (complete with Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks sing-alongs), and never missed a chance to show up on the sidelines or in the stands to cheer them on.
When his daughters shared their memories, we discovered a lifetime of moments that deserved to be set to music:
- Fishing weigh-ins at the Grange Hotel, where he’d let them sneak a taste of froth from his VB.
- Boat trips where it was just Dad and daughter, lines cast out into the sea.
- Family road trips down to Bombala, with country playlists blasting from the car stereo.
- Nights around the fire, a VB in his hand and the whole family gathered close.
And of course, no Father’s Day song would be complete without a little humour. The girls insisted we include the running joke that these days, Stephen's grandson might just outrank them as his favourite. And to cap it off, we added a cheeky nod to their brothers - Zac and Flynn - who, as usual, contributed absolutely nothing to the Father’s Day effort.
The finished piece was a warm, heartfelt country ballad that wove together Stephen's quirks, his love of family, and all the laughter he’s brought over the years. For his daughters, it was a way of saying thank you and we love you in the most personal way possible.
For Stephen, it wasn’t just a song - it was a gift that captured the heart of his family story. And that’s what makes a custom song so special: it turns the little details into a legacy you can listen to forever.
